Title: Interpretation of ichthyoplankton survey data for the assessment of the spawning stock of Pollock
Authors: Balykin, P.A.; Varkentin, A.I.
Abstract: The paper considers the methods of assessing the SSB of pollock as based on the results of one or several ichthyoplankton surveys. Water temperature data, and those on the duration and intensity of spawning, were used as well. The overall production was computed by integraring the daily production of polock eggs and spawning dynamics during the season of reproduction. The spawning stock is calculated on the basis of the total production of eggs with due regard to the biological characteristics of mature pollock (fecundity, sex ratio, mean weight).

Epischura Forbes, 1882 (Copepoda: Calanoida)

ICES advice for fishing stock management by TACs:evolution of theory

Title: ICES advice for fishing stock management by TACs:evolution of theory
Authors: Babayan, V.K.; Yefimov, Yu.N.
Abstract: The issues of sea fishing stock management and fishery regulations in general are becoming increasingly important in recent years. It results from the adoption of many international fishery agreements aimed at transition to sustainable responsible fisheries. It is also connected with the depressed condition of many fish stocks globally.
Accordingly, it is becoming a prority issue for the world scientific research effort to develop respective techniques ensuring dependable assessment of fishery resources, and advice for their utilization.
The paper reviews the evolution of stock assessment and TAC setting methods, as based on ICES example. Besides, the authors show the scheme for contemporary ways to address those.
