The Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IO-PAS) conducts scientific research in coastal areas including the Baltic and European Arctic Seas. The main research directions are: climate changes and their effects for the European Seas; contemporary changes of the coastal ecosystems; genetic and physiological mechanisms of functioning marine organisms; principles of marine biotechnology.
National Marine Fisheries Research Institute- the oldest marine science center in Poland. Areas of research at the NMFRI include: fisheries biology, fisheries oceanography and marine ecology, fish processing technology and fishery economics.
